South Australia is leading Australia's battery boom, with Adelaide households right at the centre of it. From the Hornsdale Big Battery (the world's first big battery) to thousands of home systems, SA now sets the national standard for battery-backed renewable energy, already supplying up to 30% of peak electricity demand.
This leadership is not just happening at grid scale. It creates real, everyday advantages for Adelaide homeowners. A solar battery lets you store the energy your panels produce during the day and use it when demand and prices are highest at night, during peak tariffs, or when the grid is under pressure.
At Solar Battery Group, we help Adelaide families turn this advantage into long-term savings and energy independence. With proven battery systems starting from $2,880* installed for 5kWh, including government rebates, we make it easier to take part in South Australia's energy transition while future-proofing your home.

From July 1, 2025, the Federal Government introduced the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, committing $2.3 billion to reduce the upfront cost of solar battery installations nationwide.
For South Australian households, this means an average ~30% reduction in battery pricing, making energy storage far more accessible. Combined with SA's long-standing push toward renewable energy, 2025 marks a major turning point for homeowners considering solar batteries.
The rebate is delivered through Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) under the renewable energy scheme. Adelaide sits within Zone 4, with average solar radiation of around 4.6 kWh/m² per day, providing strong year-round generation potential.
While Adelaide's sunlight is slightly less intense than northern states, it's consistent and reliable, which makes batteries highly effective for storing daytime solar and reducing reliance on the grid during expensive evening periods.
South Australia has some of the lowest feed-in tariffs in the country, while grid electricity prices-especially in the evenings-continue to climb. This means exporting excess solar delivers less value than ever before.
Solar batteries flip the equation. Instead of selling energy cheaply and buying it back later at a premium, you can store your solar and use it yourself. That's why batteries are now a key focus of energy policy and why Adelaide households are increasingly making the switch.
Keep in mind: the Federal rebate is capped at $2.3 billion, and the value reduces each year until 2030. Acting sooner means locking in higher incentives while they're still available.
We've carefully selected a range of solar batteries suited to Adelaide homes, focusing on long service life, retrofit compatibility, modular expansion, safety, and reliable performance in South Australia's hot summers and cool winters.

In the past, adding a battery to an existing solar system often meant installing a new hybrid inverter, which adds more cost and complexity.
Today, many batteries are AC-coupled with built-in inverters, allowing them to be added to your current system without major changes. If your home already has a hybrid inverter, you may also choose a DC-coupled battery, which can offer higher efficiency for new or upgraded systems.

All batteries we install use cobalt-free Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO₄ / LFP) chemistry. This technology is safer, more stable, and better suited to Adelaide's temperature extremes - delivering consistent performance and peace of mind.
Adelaide gets plenty of sunshine, but most of us aren't home when our panels are pumping out free power in the middle of the day. Instead, we end up repurchasing electricity from the grid at night when prices are highest.
That's where a solar battery changes everything.
By storing your excess solar energy during the day, you can:
Today's solar batteries aren't just storage devices.
They're also smart energy managers. Most come with easy-to-use apps that let you track usage, monitor savings, and even control when you buy and sell energy back to the grid.
Paired with your solar inverter and panels, the right system can almost eliminate your evening reliance on the grid, giving you more energy independence and certainty over your bills.

What is the payback period? It's the time that you can expect the system to pay for itself.
Before the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, the average payback period across the country was 8 - 10 years.
After the Federal rebate, the average payback period in Adelaide and South Australia is an estimated 7 years*.
However, this also depends on other factors - such as your location, the battery brand, model and capacity; as well as how soon you install.
*Estimating a 10kWh battery with an $9,500 installation cost.

A solar battery is more than just its storage capacity. Understanding the features that sit behind the kilowatt-hours helps you know exactly what you're getting, how the system will work in your home, and whether it's suited to South Australia's conditions.

To qualify, your system must:
The Federal rebate in SA can save homeowners up to 25% of upfront costs, based on the system.

If you don't yet have solar panels, we also offer solar PV + battery bundles that allow you to combine the Federal battery rebate with the STC solar rebate for maximum upfront savings.
Bundling ensures your panels, inverter, and battery are designed to work together, delivering better performance and faster payback from day one.

Every Adelaide household is different, but most of our customers see significant savings once they add a battery.Depending on your energy habits, system setup, and local rates, it's not out of the question to reduce your electricity bills by 50-80 %, especially in the evenings. That estimate aligns with real - world customer outcomes.

Installing a solar battery is a big step towards energy independence, but how you use it day to day can make a real difference to your savings. With a few smart habits and settings, Adelaide households can get even more out of the system they already have - without added complexity.
A Virtual Power Plant (VPP) connects your battery with others to support the grid during periods of high demand. In return, you may receive bill credits, higher feed-in rates, or other financial incentives. While the provider may draw on some of your stored energy at certain times, many Sydney households find the trade-off worthwhile. Taking the time to compare VPP offers ensures you choose an option that aligns with your lifestyle and comfort level.
Your solar battery comes with a monitoring app that shows how much energy you’re generating, using, and storing in real time. Many apps also allow you to automate charging or discharging based on time-of-use pricing. Checking in regularly helps you understand your energy habits and make small adjustments that add up over time — all at your own pace.
A Home Energy Management System brings your solar, battery, and compatible appliances together under one smart platform. It can automatically run appliances when solar production is high, helping you use more of your own energy instead of exporting it. For Sydney households with multiple smart devices, a HEMS can simplify energy use and quietly improve efficiency in the background.
Your battery really earns its keep when solar panels aren’t producing — such as in the evening, on overcast days, or during winter. Using stored energy during these times helps reduce reliance on peak-rate grid electricity. By prioritising self-consumption, you can feel confident knowing your solar energy is working for you when you need it most.
Some systems allow your battery to charge from the grid during off-peak hours, when electricity rates are lowest. This can be especially helpful during extended cloudy periods, ensuring you still have stored energy available when needed. While solar pairing is required for rebates, off-peak charging is a handy backup that adds flexibility and peace of mind.
The less energy your home uses, the further your stored power will go. Energy-efficient appliances — particularly for heating, cooling, refrigeration, and laundry — place less demand on your battery and help it last longer through the day. Over time, these upgrades quietly enhance the performance and long-term value of your solar battery system.
